Tonight, WRFU has passed the biggest legislative hurdle to date.

The Urgency of Advocacy – action plans for addressing the threat to defund public broadcasting

There is federal legislation proposed that would drastically cut funding for public broadcasting, as part of President Obama’s debt reduction commission. This would be a crisis for community radio across the country. We are confronting the most serious threat ever to the future funding of public broadcasting.

The National Federal of Community Broadcasters and NPR are developing strategies and an action plan for stations. Their webinar this Wednesday, December 8, is titled:

The Urgency of Advocacy – action plans for addressing the threat to defund public broadcasting

WEFT, the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center, and WRFU are hosting attendance at this webinar, this Wednesday December 8 between 1 and 2 p.m. In the Great Hall at WEFT, at 113 North Market Street in downtown Champaign. Join your local public broadcasters to find out how we can participate in a national effort to preserve funding for community radio.

Blues Before Sunrise Extended an Extra Hour

Listening to Blues Before Sunrise will now be heard as it was meant to be, airing it's complete five hour segment, starting with Sunday (Monday) morning from midnight to 5am.

And, if you can manage it, Democracy Now! in Spanish, news in French and German air immediately after in a 30 minute segment.

RFU Work Party Friday, October 8th

Friday evening, RFU members and volunteers will be organizing the CD library in the studio. Bring music to play as RFU members and volunteers will be organizing the CD library in the studio, which has long been overdue. We will be in the station from 4-10 p.m., so feel free to stop by, say hello, and meet your fellow community radio enthusiasts.

New WRFU Training Times Announced

WRFU now has regularly scheduled trainings every month for WRFU members interested in getting on the air. On the second Thursday of every month, from 8 - 9:30 p.m., Kristina Williams and Tom Garza will be available to give members a run down of FCC requirements, studio policy, and everything you need to know to get your very own show on WRFU. If you are interested in getting trained, please email Kristina at kristinawho@gmail.com at least 24 hours in advance.
