WRFU-LP 104.5 FM needs your support to keep community radio alive in Champaign-Urbana. Programming at WRFU provides listeners with a wide variety of news, world and local music, discussion of current events, and a free forum in which community members can host their own shows. WRFU is a community-based,all-volunteer operation. To continue to provide these services, the station needs a new broadcast tower, broadcast mixing console, and funds to deliver Internet streaming. If you would like to donate to WRFU or if you are interested in hosting your own fundraising event in the community space in Urbana, contact the station at www.wrfu.net for more information or visit the station at the Independent Media Center, located on 202 S. Broadway in the old post office building in Urbana.

Engineering Open House

“Sparking Curiosity” is the theme of this year’s Engineering Open House at the University of Illinois. On March 7th and 8th, visitors of all ages will converge on campus to see and experience the technological achievements of students in the College of Engineering. From high school- and college-level robotics competitions, to Rube Goldberg machines, to over 190 student exhibits, there’s lots to see and do. This is the largest student-run event at the University of Illinois with over 20,000 visitors each year. This event is fun and free! Again, the Engineering Open House will be on Friday, March 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturday, March 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the University of Illinois College of Engineering. On Tuesday, March 11th, Community Shares of Illinois invites you to pull up a chair at participating local restaurants for the 5th Annual Share-a-Meal with Community Shares event.
All you need to do is spend an enjoyable lunch or dinner with family and friends at one of these fine local restaurants: Café Luna, Kennedy's, Pasha, Mezzaluna or The Great Impasta.
Proceeds from this unique event will support dozens of local charities working to address hunger, health care, homelessness, domestic violence and other important community issues.

Hip Hop Benefit Concert

United For Uganda will host A hip hop benefit concert for Come Let’s Dance
on Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m. at the Independent Media Center at 202 S.
Broadway in Urbana. Local rappers and breakdancers will perform. Entrance
is open to all ages and costs $6. Performers include
• Krukid, a Ugandan native and rising international star. He is signed with
Rawkus Record and his recent album Afr-I-Can has been a huge success.
• Cornbread, whose past albums include Leftover Bread: Crumbs for critters.
He is currently working on Tha Black Magic LP with Hipgnosis.
• Text, who just released his newest album Discretionless.
All proceeds go to Come Let’s Dance, a grassroots organization in northern
Uganda helping former child soldiers recover from forced combat in the
20-year long civil war there and helping the surrounding war-torn
